LET THERE BE LIGHT

Nigeria. 2024

Let There Be Light project aims to empower young indigent children living in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) sites across Nigeria by providing them with practical skills and resources centered around solar energy. This pilot project took place in Wassa, FCT- Abuja with a goal to equip ‘50 children in 50 homes with the knowledge, skills and tools to implement sustainable lighting solutions in their family camps using solar-powered flashlights and bulbs. In addition to the education of the children, the project provided light for 50 homes Creating flashlights by harnessing solar powered energy for sustainable development in under-served communities .

The Challenge.

  • The unending lack of access to electricity in developing communities creates a daily challenge for marginalized communities.
  • Our approach to Solar energy is that it is abundant and renewable, making it a sustainable solution for communities with limited access to electricity. By harnessing solar power, we reduce dependency on non-renewable resources and contribute to environmental conservation.

The Benefits.

  • Cost-Effective: Solar-powered solutions require minimal operational costs once implemented, reducing long-term expenses for families.
  • Environmental Impact: By promoting solar energy, we mitigate theenvironmental footprint associated with traditional lighting methods.
  • Empowerment: Equipping children with practical skills empower them to become agents of change within their communities, promoting self-sufficiency and innovation.

The Target.

Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and other under-served communities face the challenge of not having consistent power supply. The overwhelming majority of internally displaced persons are women and children who are especially at risk of abuse of their basic rights. Due to the uncertainty of their wellbeing basic amenities tend to be overlooked (ohchr.org)
